Pretty Little Liars’ Troian Bellisario on the spring finale & if Spencer is really on the A team

If you’ve been keeping up with Pretty Little Liars this season, your reaction to the past couple of episodes is probably along the lines of “WTF?!”

Troian Bellisario recently gave an interview to HollywoodLife.com, where she touched on a few of the recent developments in Pretty Little Liars, and divulged a few details that we are going to find out more about on March 19’s spring finale. Troian said that three things are going to be revealed: whether or not Toby is really dead, who the girl in the red coat is, and if Spencer is now on the A team (!!!).

Troian told HollywoodLife.com that although Spencer saw a dead body and saw that the body had Toby’s infamous tattoo, we need to be careful to remember that Pretty Little Liars is famous for flipping the script and that the dead body may not have been Toby: “What’s really fun about our show is that there’s always that burning question: Is anybody really dead?… There was definitely a body — dressed like him, with his tattoo, who Spencer fully believes was Toby — but she didn’t get to identify him. There’s still a ray of hope for all the Toby fans. The last episode is really going to be about that big moment where we find out if he’s really dead, or if he’s alive… somewhere.”

In a town like Rosewood, where one must always be suspicious of everyone – be it wondering if your girlfriend is cheating on you or whether or not your dad killed your best friend – you can never really trust anyone. Even your best friends. Troian teases us by telling us that we will find out the identity of the girl in the red coat, but she doesn’t reveal it: “I literally had to stop reading the script, and I looked up at [creator Marlene King] and was like, ‘Wait, WHAT?’… That was my first ‘gotcha’ in the entirety of Pretty Little Liars. It’s going to be a pretty shocking moment for everybody.”

Okay. So then it can’t be Cece, right? Because that’s not shocking. That’s who we assume it is. My second guess is Alison: she will finally reveal that she has been alive this entire time and has narrowly avoided being buried a bunch of times and has a handful of lookalike dead bodies that have been buried in her place. HollywoodLife.com posits that it could be Alison’s twin, who apparently exists in Sara Shepard’s Pretty Little Liars books but has yet to make an appearance on the show. But that wouldn’t be that shocking to Spencer either, would it? Surely she’s read the Pretty Little Liars series. So this is what we know: the girl in the red coat has blonde hair (or a blonde wig) and it was a shocking reveal to Troian. My theory: it’s Hanna. Isn’t it always the person you suspect the least? And she’s the only other blonde girl I can think of. How shocking would that be, if she had been playing the girls the whole time?! What if she and Mona plotted to kill Alison and that’s how they bonded and… I’m getting ahead of myself.

Which brings me to the ultimate question: is Spencer really on the A team? Clearly, losing your virginity to someone you found out has been terrorizing and haunting you for years is just a tad traumatic and clearly Spence isn’t in the best frame of mind right now, but could she seriously go over to the dark side?! Troian says, “Everyone’s been talking about Spencer 2.0 on Twitter, but really, what we’ve been seeing is the old Spencer being burned to the ground. She was completely annihilated. We still don’t know what’s going to rise from the ashes… A lot of people are wondering if Spencer is the new Mona. It was very fun for me to navigate those murky waters, as Spencer has been completely reinventing herself.” Damn it, Troian: tell us what you know!

Tune in next Tuesday, March 19th, at 8/7c for the spring finale and find out the answers for yourself!
