Kandi Burruss sues Kim Zolciak over Tardy For The Party, Phaedra Parks to represent her

Kim Zolciak and Kandi Burruss at Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion

It seems that the recent disputes between The Real Housewives of Atlanta cast mates Kandi Burruss and Kim Zolciak, which included a feud over who first thought of the baby name Kash, has motivated Kandi to unbury the hatchet on a previous issue between the two. The 36-year-old singer/songwriter filed a lawsuit against Kim yesterday in Atlanta claiming she was not properly compensated for her work on Kim’s single “Tardy For The Party!”

Kandi, whose spin off debuts next month on Bravo, and co-writter Rodney Richards are seeking “damages for copyright infringement due to Defendants’ unauthorized and unlawful licensing, distribution and sale of Plaintiffs’ creative works, namely a sound recording embodying a performance of a musical composition entitled ‘Tardy for the Party’,” reports Access Atlanta.

Kandi is also suing TuneCore, which distributes music to online retailers.

During Season 3, Kandi said that Kim failed to pay her the money she was due, and the two also discussed the matter at the Season 4 Reunion. At the time, Kandi still seemed frustrated about the whole thing, but appeared to be willing to just accept it and move on. She told host Andy Cohen, “That was a learning experience, but I feel like good things have come out of me working with her.”

In a 2011 article by The Hollywood Reporter, Kandi revealed that she had only gotten $4,000 for her work on the track, in part because she didn’t have an agreement in place concerning royalties, but also because she handed over rights to Bravo. “Normally, I would get sync license fees every time the song plays, but I gave the show a gratis,” Kandi explained at the time. “I know Kim was new to the music industry so I don’t feel like she was purposely trying to wrong me. I just think she was misinformed.”

Judge Pahedra Parks Kandi Burruss sues Kim Zolciak over Tardy for the Party

But the lawsuit itself isn’t the only big news — Kandi has hired her friend and co-star Phaedra Parks to represent her in the case! Less than two weeks ago we reported on rumblings from the ATL that suggested Phaedra would be getting her own spin off, which would be a legal themed Judge Judy/People’s Court type affair.

So are you thinking what I’m thinking? A four-way Bravo crossover! RHOA meets The Kandi Factory meets Don’t Be Tardy… meets Judge Phaedra, all to the tune of “Tardy For The Party!” It could be the Judge Phaedra two-hour premiere and Bravo could bill it with slogans like, “In the Phaedradome, it’s two women enter, one woman leave.” (I’m not sure how Phaedra could defend Kandi and be the judge at the same time, but that’s the Bravo producers’ problem, not mine!)

Access Hollywood reports that the RHOA ladies, including Kandi and Kim, are filming the reunion show this week. This is sure to go over well.
