Tamra Barney says “No Housewives should sing,” defines her Bravo job description

The Real Housewives of Orange County stars Tamra Barney and Gretchen Rossi attend Comedienne & NY Times Bestselling Author Heather McDonald Celebrates the release of her second book, ‘My Inappropriate Life' at The Emerson Theater in Hollywood, California, USA.

A couple of years ago Tamra Barney and Gretchen Rossi were each other’s worst enemy on The Real Housewives of Orange County. Then, in an odd turn of events, the two reconciled at the beginning of Season 7, and by the end of the year were new besties. But, as the saying goes, “All good things come to an end,” and once again these two seem to be on the rocks.

In an all new interview with AllAboutTRH, Tamra opens up about her current friendship with Gretchen and hints that things aren’t all gravy. “We definitely have some hiccups with some things I’ve seen in her that were issues that I had in the very beginning with her,” Tamra explains. “It made me open my eyes and question, ‘is this really what I want in a friend?’ I’m not saying we’re enemies by any means. I still talk to her, but some things definitely come to light.”

One thing that’s come to light now is how Tamra feels about Gretchen’s singing — and she’s not impressed. In fact, she’s not impressed with any of the Housewives music careers. When asked who her favorite Housewives singer was, Tamra replied, “None! They all suck!” Ouch. (Is that a snap I hear coming out of Altanta?)

And when AllAboutTRH asked her if she was also referring to Gretchen, she said, “Yes! Have you heard her sing? Are you going to argue with me?” Gretchen has released a few singles including “Revelation,” “Unbreakable,” and “Nothing Without You,” which was in honor of her late fiancé Jef Bietzel

“No Housewives should sing!” Tamra also added, “I think the only one that kind of has a voice is that Melissa Gorga. Kind of.”

In addition to Melissa, Tamra is also a fan of Heather Dubrow and has even enlisted her to sing at her upcoming wedding to Eddie Judge. “Heather is a singer. She used to do it as a profession. She used to be a wedding singer and she had a big band that she sang with. She even used to sing at Disneyland. She’s extremely talented, but doesn’t want it to be a joke.”

Holy cow! A closeted singing Housewife?! I had no idea those even existed.

And speaking of closeted, that is something Tamra says she has never been on the show. When asked if she thinks Bravo has portrayed her accurately on The Real Housewives of Orange County, citing the fact that many fans think of her as a bitch, Tamra responded in true (and refreshing) Tamra Barney fashion:

Sometimes people are afraid of the truth. I was hired to do a job and my job was to be real. I am not on the show to show the viewers what I want to show them. I show them what true life is. I don’t get up there and think ‘Oh, I’m not going to say this because I want everybody to love me.’ No, that’s not who I am.

I was given a job and I’m doing it well. Andy Cohen refers to me as “the perfect Housewife”. I take my job very seriously and when I sign a contract asking me to be real, I’m going to be real. If you’re going to do something stupid, I’m going to call you out. That’s what I’m here to do. I am not here to make friends and I tell every single one of the girls that. I’m here to do a job. I have Housewives from other franchises calling me and asking me ‘how do you do this?’ or ‘how do you balance this?’ and I say this: ‘I don’t lie, I don’t cheat, and I don’t exaggerate.’

What you see me do is be honest. That’s what I’m here to do. If I could I would ask to only show my purse line, or request to get my hair done every day, but that’s not reality. I do have a sarcastic side and Bravo only shows a certain percentage of you, so if that’s all they show… They don’t see me as a mom. They don’t see a lot of my life. You do see a lot of sarcasm because they love my one-liners.

Damn! Bravo needs to lift some of that copy to use when they make announcements looking for new housewives!

UPDATE: Gretchen has responded to the article saying, “Tamra texted me this was all BS and she didn’t say this about me.” However, AllAboutTRH claims that they have the interview on tape and nothing Tamra was said was manipulated or twisted.

For more of the ladies, tune in to The Real Housewives of Orange County when the eighth season premieres on Bravo on April 1 at 8/7c.
