Sofia Vergara is one funny woman who absolutely kills it on Modern Family. But, let’s be honest, the first thing that most people notice about her isn’t her bubbly personality. Rather than let there be an elephant (or two) in the room, Vergara doesn’t shy away from talking about her biggest assets.
“When I was 13, I got these ridiculous boobs,” Vergara said for a 2010 interview with Self Magazine. “It’s hard to dress. No matter what I wear, I look like a stripper. That said, I’m grateful I have them, and honestly, they’ve helped me a lot in my career. And I’ve always felt sexy.”
Vergara wasn’t always so comfortable in her body. She even admitted that, as a teenager in Colombia, she begged her mom to approve a breast reduction surgery.
Vergara’s mom talked her out of surgery, but that didn’t mean her family supported her acting ambitions — and her bust played into that, too. During last weekend’s SAG Awards, Vergara told Us Magazine about one particularly memorable encounter she had with her dad.
“My father told me if I did anything artistic, I would look like a hooker,” Vergara said. “I told him, ‘With these huge boobs that I inherited from your mother, I already look like a hooker!'”
Even though she went against her father’s advice, Vergara does admit that her body shape typecasts her in Hollywood.
“For every 100 roles that come out for another actress, there are two that fit somebody like me,” Vergara told Self. “I mean, I cannot play a scientist. I know who I am. I know how I look. I know how I sound. I’m not going to tell my agent, ‘Book me Schindler’s List 2.'”
Vergara also said she works hard to look her best. In addition to watching what she eats, Vergara works out with a trainer. But, working out doesn’t mean she aims to lose all traces of fat.
“Some women overdo it,” Vergara said. “Their body looks 20, but their face looks horrible. You need a little fat in your face!”
She also admits owns up to some ulterior motives…
“Nobody wants to see Gloria with a flat ass!”
