Bethenny Frankel confirms split from husband Jason Hoppy in a statement

It has been rumored for months (and months and months) that former Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel and husband Jason Hoppy were having difficulties making their marriage work, with a source on Wednesday going so far as to say the Skinnygirl Bethennterepreneur was already meeting with divorce attorneys and working out the details of their separation. Today Bethenny confirmed the split in the following statement:

It brings me great sadness to say that Jason and I are separating. This was an extremely difficult decision that as a woman and a mother, I have to accept as the best choice for our family. We have love and respect for one another and will continue to amicably co-parent our daughter who is and will always remain our first priority. This is an immensely painful and heartbreaking time for us.

Bethenny boiled the statement down for her only tweet so far today, which reads, “I am heartbroken. I am sad. We will work through this as a family.”

Frankel and Hoppy married in March of 2010 while Bethenny was 7 months pregnant with their daughter Bryn, now 2½. First word of the couple’s troubles came all the way back in March of 2012 when it was reported Jason Hoppy was no longer living in their apartment, but at the nearby Cosmopolitan Hotel. Since that time the reports of a split have been slow and steady, culminating in Bethenny’s statement today. (Of course it is uncertain when the serious difficulties actually began between the two.)

But things aren’t looking all bad for the 42-year-old former reality star and soon-to-be-single mother of one. It was recently announced that her talk show would be picked up in national syndication after a successful test run this past summer on six select Fox networks around the country.

Also, we all know how much Bethenny loves sharing her personal life, and we all know how much Bravo (i.e. Andy Cohen) loves Bethenny, so I’m guessing there might be a good chance we will see her return to the network for the third installation of her reality series originally titled Bethenny Getting Married? before transitioning to Bethenny Ever After. Would anyone like to guess what the show will be called if it does come back? My three guesses are Bethenny Getting Divorced?, Bethenny Never After and simply UnHoppy.

All joking aside, the announcement is a genuine bummer to Bethenny and Jason fans like myself. Perhaps there was a limit to the amount of brashness Jason could take after all 🙁
