Westboro Baptist church plans to protest the Sandy Hook Elementary vigil, says God sent the shooter

Westboro Baptist Church, a small church famous for protesting outside funerals for U.S. soldiers, has announced that it will protest Sandy Hook Elementary to “sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment.” Another member of the church has tweeted that “God sent the shooter.” They’ve actually made that statement into a sign posted on their website, which we refuse to link to. Westboro believes that America is being punished by God for accepting gay and lesbians, and thinks 9/11, war, and any tragedy involving death is an act of God’s vengeance on our country.

The vigil has since been cancelled because of a bomb threat, but there is still a chance they will show up at the funerals of the shooting victims.

A hacker activist group KY Anonymous hacked into their website today, posting the video and statement below below:

We will not allow you to corrupt the minds of America with your seeds of hatred. We will not allow you to inspire aggression to the social factions which you deem inferior. We will render you obsolete. We will destroy you. We are coming.

There is a petition to “Legally recognize Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group” on the White House website.

This literally has my mind blown. I’m not even going to say what I think about them because it’s not appropriate for this site. I’m literally shaking with disgust right now and I pray with all my might that the authorities will not allow this. Going to sign the petition now.

These people are trying to get their church burned down. If they showed up to my child’s funeral, they’d probably get their asses kicked.

  • Charla

I saw a documentary on them a view years ago. They call themselves a church but they only protest and spew hate. They are singularly focused on gays which makes me think their leader is trying to hide something. They don’t fellowship or give to the community. And the majority of the members are related. They should definitely be listed as a hate group.

    • ohhhhno

There is a petition to the White House to have them deemed a hate group. I tried Googling to find the link, but no luck. I’m not sure what good petitions do, but I guess we’ll see.

      • ohhhhno

Nevermind! There is a link in the article, D’OH! It’s kind of hard to see though

  • epw

How come people who commit mass shootings never decide to go take out people like this? Let them meet their maker.

    • amber

i was thinking the exact same thing! these people make me sickkk to my stomach

    • Angie

      My thoughts exactly, epw.

  • Courtney

This is unacceptable! How are Hees people allowed to protest at funerals!?! They are disgusting human beings and I hope God punishes THEM!!!! Soooo sick!!!

    • Courtney

      These* (not Hees oops)

Don’t forget I read an article online saying one of the members tweeted it was Carrie Underwood’s fault the shooting happened as well. This is clearly a church of Satan not of God they all need to just disappear they make me so sick

  • Alexandra

I think my last comment was rejected because I swore…but that is just my vocabulary when I speak of WBC. Here it is without the language. Screw off (I think that’s not a curse), screw right off. I hope authorities don’t allow these people to even enter the town, I don’t care if it might violate their human rights (I’m Canadian, so don’t know the amendments). These families and children have been through enough, they don’t need signs telling them their loved ones are in Hell and that God sent the shooter. They take their hate too far as it is, but this is just mind blowing. They really don’t have a heart.

  • have2say

they really are from the church of satan

  • have2say

Fred Waldron Phelps, Sr. is the pastor who hates everybody except himself and his church memebers.

  • have2say

Fred Waldron Phelps, Sr. hates homosexuals; but many homosexuals behave better than this low class jerk

  • tab

    this makes me extremely sad.
if i lived in that area, i’d organize a huge group of people to make a barricade around these people so that the families didn’t have to see them. i’d blare music so loudly that their protests couldn’t be heard.

I am a Christian. Christian means a “follower of Christ”. Clearly these ppl are NOT Christians. Jesus says to LOVE one another, this is not love. I can say from the bottom of my heart I feel complete disgust. Theirs signs says “god hates you” they are not speaking of the God of the bible. Evil HATES.
God would not impose such a judgment on these innocent Children who are not even accountable for their own behavior yet. It’s not a judgment by God at all, it’s unrestricted wickedness. This event was pure evil and these ppl are filled with the same evil as what transpired on Friday morning. Please, they should be stopped IMMEDIATELY, I am outraged.

  • Burkey

I know that one soldier’s funeral that they intended to picket one time a bunch of college students made a human barricade so these psychos could not get past them. I’m thinking people should come together to do this for these victim’s funerals. It is absolutely disgusting that they would show up to any victim’s funeral especially 6 and 7 year olds and if the law can’t stop them someone needs to. I would personally drive to CT to be part of a human barricade if it were to happen.

  • way2short

Right after the shootings the tv media would’t say his name because that is something that he would want…fame….the same goes for these people, I say ignoring and being passive to their plight is the only way to deal with such people. The less press they get the better. Leave these poor families alone let them grieve, and let the community surround them with love and shelter them from more pain.

  • Jessicaa

It’s f*ck*rs like them that fill this world with Hate!! Makes me furious to know people like this exist. They are just as bad as the person who killed all those beautiful children! I think our laws need to prosecute them!

  • sensible

WBC does what is does SOLELY for publicity. As long as the media continues to pay them attention (it’s great for ratings), they will continue to do what they do. They’re not doing anything illegal, they’re just being insensitive attention-seeking morons.

  • Charla

It’s already been to the Supreme Court and they won. They are protected under free speech unfortunately. But if they protested at my loved ones funeral, someone from their “church” will be physically injured.

  • luke

PLEASE do not compare those hate filled biggots with the church of Satan. Here’s some knowledge about the church of Satan. There is no hell in the satanic bible, there is no satanic figure. The church of Satan is about caring for yourself, but in NO WAY preaches hate to others. “Satan” was created by Christians so their sheep would have something to be afraid of
if they really do a human barricade, I’m in. I can get there in 2 hours

    • kristi

Although I don’t agree with your religious views I think its very kind hearted of you to be willing to stick up for these beautiful children . Their souls and their familied deserve peace .

  • http://twitter.com/coffylover Caty C.P. :)

I want to throttle these people. They are not the Christians they claim to be. Awful :(

  • t

I would love to hear their views of why horrible things happen to people in countries, states that dont allow gay marriage. Its a shame that they receive any media attention. They all need to take a one way flight out of the country they hate so much.

  • Jay

Wonder if the shooter maybe could of taken them out. I’d love to picket Fred Phelps’ funeral, see how that old POS would like it.

  • Sweet Venom

I can’t believe that people who are so narrow minded and ignorant are still around. It’s like they are brain washed or something because it seems impossible for them to believe what they believe.
