Is anyone else getting the impression that this whole “fiscal cliff” thing could easily be avoided if the IRS was just able to collect unpaid taxes from washed up celebrities? And speaking of washed up, Alec’s little brother Stephen Baldwin washed up real good for his mug shot photo after he was charged on Thursday with failing to pay $350,000 in New York state taxes for the years 2008, 2009, 2010.
Actually, given Stephen’s patented Baldwin smirk in the picture, it might be more accurate to call it a smug shot. But, that being said, Stephen may be 2012’s silver medal winner for sharpest male mug shot, right behind former The Bachelorette contestant Kasey Kahl.
Stephen Baldwin was freed without bail after pleading not guilty at his arraignment. “Mr. Baldwin did not commit any crimes, and he’s working with the district attorney’s office and the New York State Tax Department to resolve any differences,” Stephen’s attorney Russell Yankwitt said.
Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe seemed a little less dismissive of the charges against Baldwin. “We cannot afford to allow wealthy residents to break the law by cheating on their taxes,” he said. “The defendant’s repetitive failure to file returns and pay taxes over a period of several years contributes to the sweeping cutbacks and closures in local government and in our schools.” Zugibe said if Baldwin is convicted he could face up to four years in prison. Baldwin is due back in court on Feb. 5.
To be honest, I’m kind of surprised Stephen Baldwin earned enough money to owe $350,000 in state income taxes over three years! I guess Sharks In Venice did better than I thought!
