Anne Hathaway on body issues: “Am I thin enough? Am I too thin?”

Anne Hathway worries a lot, about her weight, and about what she wears when she goes out. She says if she weren’t famous, she’d wear WAY more silly hats, and way less navy.

Anne lost a lot of weight for her role in Les Mis, sometimes subsisting on two dry oat cakes a day.

Doing this type of thing has probably contributed to an ongoing internal struggle about her body. She tells Glamour:

“I still feel the stress over ‘Am I thin enough? Am I too thin? Is my body the right shape?’ There’s an obsessive quality to it that I thought I would’ve grown out of by now. It’s an ongoing source of shame for me.”

Her insecurities are heightened by her fame, and being constantly followed by paparazzi makes her question her personal fashion choices:

“I just think about the ridicule you get if you have an off day. If people weren’t watching, I’d be so much more eccentric. I know it makes me sound weak, but rather than make myself happy and wear the silly hat and say, ‘Oh, I don’t care.’ I actually really don’t feel like getting made fun of,” she says. “So I put on something boring and navy and go out and try to disappear.”

A lot of stars sort of embrace dressing in a “ridiculous,” unique, or stand-out way. Anne shouldn’t have to worry about expressing herself when she goes out in public. She also shouldn’t worry about her body issues. She got waaaay too thin for Les Mis, but she’s always has a very nice figure.

She did, however, wear the above outfit for her Glamour photoshoot, so she does have some guts.
