The Olsen twins release $55,000 crocodile handbag studded with prescription pills

Thanks to the Olsen twins Bob Dylan might soon be changing the lyrics from his classic ’60s ode to animal print headgear to read, “Well, I see you got your brand new crocodile-skin pill handbag!” And in case Bob is wondering, yes, “it’s really that expensive kind.”

The former Full House stars turned fashion moguls are taking their label “The Row” to the next (aka much more expensive) level and will be releasing a line of handbags priced at $55,000 each. Ashley and Mary-Kate collaborated with artist Damien Hirst to create 9 one-of-a-kind crocodile skin pieces, some of which are decorated with colorful prescription pills.

There will only be 12 of each of the 9 styles made and a portion of the proceeds will benefit UNICEF. However, it is unknown what percentage will be donated.

Among the styles of the bags are a black pill bag, a multicolored pill bag, and several polka-dotted bags as well. Here are photos of one of the Olsen Twins’ prescription pill handbags with a description from JustOneEye.com:

Available for purchase from 12/12/12. Exclusive to Just One Eye and only one in a rare, limited edition of 12, this incredible piece features numerous multicolored prescription pill appliqués, of varying sizes and colors, specially created by Damien Hirst. This one-of-a-kind wearable art work features original art by Hirst, meticulously applied to front, back, and straps, of The Row’s beautifully crafted backpack, the centerpiece design of their 2012 collection. Using traditional techniques, this stunning backpack was crafted in Italy and made with specially sourced materials. Created of black patent leather Nile crocodile, the backpack’s many features include internal detachable handle, adjustable canvas straps, internal zip-fastening, slit pockets, and small gold-plated brass feet at base. Each backpack is fully lined in the highest quality leather and comes with metal mirror plate and case, as well as designer-stamped gold-plated brass hardware. Signed by Damien Hirst.

The bags are already causing some controversy as they appear to glamorize drug use. And the seemingly inappropriate message should really strike a cord with Mary-Kate because she was the first person called after her close friend Heath Ledger died of an accidental overdose of prescriptions meds including painkillers, sleeping pills, and anti-anxiety medication in January of 2008.

Last year, The Olsen Twins released their first handbag collection which retailed from $4,700 to $39,000. As crazy as it sounds, the line sold out.

The Olsens have appeared on  Forbes’ “Celebrity 100” list for the last decade. In 2007, they were ranked as the 11th richest women in entertainment, with an estimated net worth of $100 million.

The $55,000 bags go on sale online on December 12. Get out your checkbooks and prepare to get mugged!
