Amber Portwood taking parenting classes in prison

Amber Portwood has been struggling with addiction since the age of 13, and earlier this year it got so bad that she couldn’t even complete drug treatment, opting instead to go to prison. It was certainly a desperate move on her part, but one that could ultimately be a benefit to her and her three-year-old daughter, Leah.

The Teen Mom star could no longer trust herself in the free world with drugs around her and felt as though prison was her only logical option. Now, as she sits in an Indiana prison, she is trying to put her life back together and be a better parent.

According to Radar Online, Amber “has joined the prison choir, is taking parenting classes and even working out.” She’s doing what she can to refocus her life and get involved in better, sober activities. This should help her re-structure her life so that when she’s released, she doesn’t fall back into her old habits.

“Amber is well aware she hasn’t exactly been the model mom for Leah, and she will do anything to make it right,” a source tells Radar. “It took time, but she’s now taking a hard, long look at herself in the mirror and realizing she needs to make it up to her daughter.”

Amber has a hard road ahead of her but what is most important is gaining the ability to parent Leah in a better way. If she can’t do that, then taking the five-year sentence would be worthless.

“The prison offers parenting classes and Amber was quick to sign up for them too – if it helps her be a better mom to Leah, then she thinks it’s worth doing,” the source adds.

Amber Portwood looks to be heading in the right direction. As long as she remains focused on her daughter, she’ll come out of prison a better parent and a stronger person.

I hope she continues to do well, for her sake and her daughter’s sake. Her brother Shawn should just stfu already. He’s always talking exclusively to someone, and that makes me wonder. He whinned about MTV ruining her life, yet he’s always talking to the media. Riding her coat tails much? He doesn’t visit her, hasn’t even set up a phone account by his own admisson, he’s just a loser, and so is her mother, and that’s part of the reason, she has the problems she does, they are a bunch white trash people that exploited her and continue to do so, even while she’s in jail. Very sad!

  Thats true, he is the same one who said those were old pills Amber had in her purse when she was busted, yet no doctor would vouche for that. He is always giving an exclusive on her or making lies to cover her back. He’s also the one who lied in the media saying she wasnt arrested or facing jail time or didnt violate probation. Have a seat Shawn, have several seats…here’s one for u -/

I really do wish her the best. I think it would be hard enough to struggle with addiction in everyday life, let alone with millions of people watching you. I feel really bad for her with all the nasty things people say about her on twitter, Facebook, etc. I think people forget that they screw up too, they just don’t have to deal with it with an audience.

Isnt Starcasm the ones who intially reported Amber being in the prison choir and working out as well as taking parenting classes lol? Giving credit to the other site too huh? My question about Amber is, was she sober when she carried Leah? If she ran to prison to get help and felt she couldnt cope while being on the outside world, what is she gonna do when she gets out? OMG I know, deal with it and stay strong for her daughter, the same thing she could have done a yr ago. Sounds like she’ll be right back at square one initially when she comes home, she;s still gonna deal with scrutiny and temptations. You didnt need 5 yrs of prison and time away from ur baby girl just to end up facing the inevitable.

  No they weren’t the initial ones to report that. Maybe it was the first place you HEARD about it but they got the info from another source.

everyone does better when they are in jail come on … rehab didnt work i dont like jail will change her i saw that video she did and all i heard was excuses why gary does this and and he dont do that for her like really he dont have to do nothing bc u put ur self there u could of went to rehab and really tried to complete the program but u choose jail so now live with it silly girl..jail should of been the last thing to agree on bc now u messt up ur record and ur relationship with ur kid ..hope u get better but i dont think u will sorry ur sober and still putting the blame on ppl ……….

GO Amber! im so happy she is turing her life around, the only thing is when she gets out will she be able to see leah? will gary go back to joint custody after a while? i hope she continues to do well! im so happy for her!
