Reese Witherspoon welcomes a baby boy, gives him unique name

Reese and Tennessee James

Reese Witherspoon and her husband Jim Toth have welcomed their first child, a son, today in Los Angeles. This is Reese’s third child and the first for Jim. The baby, Tennessee James, joins siblings Ava, 13, and Deacon, 8, from Reese’s previous marriage to Ryan Phillippe.

“Reese Witherspoon and husband Jim Toth welcomed Tennessee James into their family today. Both mom and baby are healthy and the entire family is thrilled,” Reese’s rep confirms to Us Weekly.

Reese and Jim, a CAA agent, tied the knot last March at her Ojai, California home (the one Robert Pattinson stayed at following his split from Kristen Stewart) after dating for a year and just one year after that, announced their pregnancy.

At the time, a source close to Jim told Us Weekly, “Before Jim met Reese, he wasn’t sure about having kids. Being around her kids has really shown him what it’s all about.” Added another insider, “Settling down with Jim and raising a family is what [Reese] wanted.”

Reese didn’t speak much about the baby during the pregnancy but during her last red carpet appearance at a Gene Siskel Film Center event, she told press, “I’m feeling very round tonight. After I finish [Devil’s Knot], I’m going to take a little time off — and go have a baby!” she added.

Following that, we hadn’t heard much from her, but now she’s back and she’s got a little Tennessee! As for where the name came from, we’d have to guess that it is in honor of her childhood. While Reese was born in New Orleans, she grew up in Tennessee.
