It’s not often that a spin-off series eclipses the original in the ratings, but that is certainly the case with TLC’s controversial smash hit Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, which beat out Toddlers & Tiaras last week with almost twice as many viewers! (The back-to-back premiere episodes of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo had 2.253 million and 2.14 million viewers and the new episode of Toddlers & Tiaras, which aired just before, came in with 1.554 million viewers).

The premiere was one of the biggest in TLC history, and there was very little drop off this week as the HUGE media buzz surrounding the show (plus the fact that it is just plain entertaining!) led to 2.059 million and 1.943 million people tuning in to watch Mama June, Honey Boo Boo and the rest of the family go extreme couponing at the Piggly Wiggly, build a “redneck slip and slide,” get facial s’mages and pedicures (except for June, who was unwilling to unveil her “forklift toes”), and June and Sugar Bear’s first date after eight years together!

It will be interesting to see if Here Comes Honey Boo Boo is able to sustain such high ratings, and I see no reason why it won’t. Despite all the negative comments about the show, it is extremely well produced and although the cast members do come across as authentically uncouth and eccentric (and unhealthy), they do so without so much as a trace of meanness — which seems like a winning recipe to me! Anyways, for others interested in how well the show is doing in the ratings, I’ve created a graph showing each episode from Season 1 and how many million viewers tuned in for each. I will continue to update until the season is over, and will probably add on for Season 2.

What are the ratings for Here Comes Honey Boo Boo through episode 7

UPDATE - For those wanting specific numbers instead of just the graph above, here they are: (*NOTE – It appears as though TLC realized what a big hit they have on their hands and are reportedly filming right now – August 23 – for either one or two additional episodes.)

EPISODE 1: 2.253 million
EPISODE 2: 2.14 million
EPISODE 3: 2.059 million
EPISODE 4: 1.943 million
EPISODE 5: 2.336 million
EPISODE 6: 2.992 million
EPISODE 7: 2.396 million (up against NFL season opener and DNC)

*** For episodes 6 and 7 Here Comes Honey Boo Boo was the number one rated show on cable in the all-important adult 18-49 demographic used by advertisers and most ratings sites!

And for those curious about what having over 2 million viewers means, here are some other popular reality show ratings from HCHBB‘s second week for comparison:

Teen Mom: 2.632 million
Real Housewives of New Jersey: 2.231 million
Real Housewives of New York City: 1.651 million
Dance Moms: 2.081 million
Snooki & JWoww: 1.614 million
Project Runway: 2.027 million

Needless to say, June and Alana are ginormously pleased!

      • vanessa

very true hope I don’t see the need to be negative just change the channel and stop wasting time..

I actually loved the show its funny!

Starcasm.. blogging about this trash is just sad. It really gets to me that people are even interested in reading about this scum of a family.

    • You Don’t Know My Name

I actually like this show; it’s comedy gold. The mom is hilarious!

    • OhMyGeez

People like watching a good train wreck which is what most reality shows are. They all crash and burn, at some point. And of course there will be negative comments, you’re on a gossip site.

I can honestly say that this show disgusts me. These people are utterly repulsive and should be locked up somewhere not getting rewarded for being lazy, fat, unhealthy, completely ignorant slobs.
Not saying I wasn’t interested but what has our society come to when families like this, irresponsible partyers, teen parents, and many others are made famous just for being so completely irresponsible and stupid.

      • OhMyGeez

        Amen to that.

      • whoa

They may be overweight and unhealthy, but I don’t see them being lazy. The father works his butt off to support the family and the mom uses coupons like every other family does these days to save money. The kids seem happy which I would rather see then the spoiled brats on the Real Housewives shows who whine every other episode. The sad thing is the children on this show act better then Teresa’s brats and they have a lot more money.

Sugar Bear (the father) works 7 days a week, I don’t call that lazy. The house looks clean and is nice from the outside. I have seen way worse families on Wife Swap and then I do change the channel.

This family is funny & they love each other, nothing wrong w/ that. People are saying what there doing is wrong, what is the diff. in them & the Kardashians? Both families are doing the same thing, but people are ok with it, when its the Kardashians cuz there hot, just cuz the Kardashians have money does not mean they have class!

I have to say that I previously commented on this show in a negative way on another post on here. I still think it is trashy BUT I have since watched a couple shows and laughed out loud more than once. Although not sure if I was laughing at the show or that I was actually watching the show.

    • Diana

I went into this thinking I was going to come away completely disgusted..but, I actually enjoyed it. It’s funny, and while it can be slightly trashy, it fun, and isn’t that what reality tv is about?

    • annoymous

this show wont last. it’ll get old after a while.
