Katie Holmes files for sole custody of daughter Suri Cruise

More details are beginning to emerge on the Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes divorce announced earlier today. TMZ has obtained the divorce documents, which were filed anonymously by Katie Holmes in New York on June 28. In the documents it is revealed Katie is asking for sole custody of the couple’s six-year-old daughter, Suri Cruise. She is also asking for a “suitable amount” of child support.

The couple has a prenuptial agreement, but it is not mentioned in the documents and Katie requests a division of property in the filing.

As for the reason for the split, Katie cites the standard “irreconcilable differences.”

Tom Cruise is currently filming the movie Oblivion in Iceland, but his rep issued this brief statement:

“Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy.”

TMZ is reporting Tom was “blindsided” by the filing, is “very sad” and “did not see this coming.” The site has also been told that there is some “nastiness” in the relationship, which seems to match up with Katie filing for sole custody.

It sounds like this split is going to be the source of headlines for the next few months. Stay tuned!

What can you divorce for other than ‘irreconcilable differences’? Every celeb uses this reason and I always wondered what other reasons are. LOL

  Every state has different reasons, some reasons make the divorce move faster(like if your spouse is in jail). Some of the other reasons are infidelity, if one party is in jail, physical abuse, and subtance abuse. Im sure most celebrities say irreconciable differences so the real reasons aren’t found out.

  There’s also constructive abandonment (which is a good way to get around those states that do not allow you to file under irreconsiliable differences without separating for a period of time) and fraud.

Regardless, I'm interested to see this story unfold. I just read an interview with Tom about how happy he was in his marriage, so I definitely want to hear Katie's side of this.

No shock. She never looked happy in pics. A suitable amount? In other words, she doesn’t make any money and still needs to dress her child in only high end designer labels.

Thank god she’s finally leaving him. He was far to controlling and Katie never seemed happy. I just hope they sort things out and be civil for the sake of Suri and also she had a close bond with Toms older children with Nicole Kidman. As for the demands for more child support usually you will find that demands start once divorce lawyers are involved as they like to play both parties off each other for their own gain.
