Everyone was stunned when Giovanni Ribisi suddenly wed Agyness Deyn, but no one was probably more taken aback that Ribisi’s former long-time girlfriend indie musician Cat Power (real name Chan Marshall), who was still with Ribisi as of two months ago. They had been living together for years in his L.A. home with Ribisi’s 14-year-old daughter Lucia, who she had forged a mother/daughter relationship with, but Ribisi broke it off with her just as she was finishing her latest album.

I think being a Cat Power fan makes me feel more pain about this. After the actor broke up with her, Cat Power cut off her hair, and rushed to finish her new album, her first non-covers album since 2006. Cat P. spoke with The Stool Pigeon about the breakup.

“It’s all good, you know. I love the person very much [Ribisi.] I actually love this record very much too.

I entered a long relationship which I really wanted to be successful. You know that thing we’re all raised to want: a beautiful life with children? There’s this part of me who wants to be a mother…I was trying to grow my personal life in a way I never did before.”

Just this December Cat Power released a music video for her new song “King Rides By,” which was directed by Ribisi:

Giovanni Ribisi’s new wife Agyness (29) is also a singer, but she is also an actress and fashion model. They married last Friday at the Los Angeles County Register. Agyness’s sister posted about the wedding on her Twitter account, and used some thinly-veiled barbed wording: “CAT’S OUT OF THE BAG!!! Congrats to my sis… and mi [sic] new bro inlaw Giovanni’.”

Crown City News saw the couple standing in line to get married last Friday and kissing passionately. They told the reporter that the were getting married, and had been dating for “a while.”
