Blogger Gabi Gregg champions ‘fatkini’ photos

No matter what size you are, any woman has moments when she feels inadequate to go out in public in a bikini.

Size 18 XOJane.com blogger Gabi Gregg is doing her part to help change that feeling by posting photos of herself (and a gallery of 31 readers) in their “fatkinis.”

As a size 18, my swimwear posts tend to gain way more traffic than my regular outfit posts. I attribute this to the fact that our culture is so obsessed with having a “beach ready bod,” that the mere idea of someone my size in a swimsuit, let alone a bikini, is shocking to most.

Gabi has been slammed by critics for not promoting health, but Gabi points out that she’s “all for health,” and that we have to be happy in the bodies we have right now. Like, say you’re doing everything you can to be healthy, you’re eating better, working out, losing inches, and feel more toned, but your body still doesn’t meet the guidelines in your head (read: supermodel) of how a woman should look in a bikini. Should you be ashamed of yourself and hide away until that day of unobtainable perfection, or should you just enjoy yourself because right now if all you’ve got?

Gabi told The Today Show:

“I’m all for health. I think people should be really aware of what they’re putting in their bodies and try to get more active. The truth is, we have to live in our bodies and be happy with the bodies we have right now, regardless of where we are in our journey to health.”

If she’s comfortable in her skin.. Flaunt it girl!!!!

It’s refreshing to see such comfortable people like her! I use to be 210 pounds from the age of 16-20 and I never seemed to see people (like this blogger) and many others, who as of these past few years, promote trying to be healthy, and to not feel pressure while being in your own skin.

I think she’s adorable! And it is refreshing to see someone who isn’t afraid to show off her curves in a confident, and classy manner.

uh, she wishes she were a size 18!
it’s fine to be comfortable in your own skin, but don’t lie about your size if you’re truly ok with how big, or small, you are.

…because you personally measured her waistline, right?

Awesome! What a great idea, and I agree with the mission 100%. I like the way that she didn’t back down from the critics, and that she’s so comfortable in her own skin. People do need to realize that one can be perfectly healthy at different sizes.

She’s beautiful no matter what her waistline..beauty isn’t just physical!
I’m a slimmer girl, but regardless of her size she inspires me bc even though were different numbers on the scale her confidence is something we can all learn from. How dare can we judge people no one is perfect and people still scratch their heads as yo why suicide rates in kids/teens go up!

Karmas gonna be a hell of a bitch for some of you! (:
