Whitney Houston’s family gets Lifetime reality show “The Houston Chronicles”

Bobbi Kristina Next Chapter interview with Oprah Winfrey

Lifetime Networks announced yesterday that members of Whitney Houston’s family have signed on for ten episodes of The Houston Chronicles, a reality series documenting how they cope with dealing with the passing of Whitney, who drowned in a hotel tub on February 11.

“The tragic loss of Whitney Houston left a void in the hearts of people all over the world, but certainly none more so than her beloved family,” says Rob Sharenow, Executive Vice President, Programming, of Lifetime Networks. “In this series, the multi-generations of the Houston family will bravely reveal their lives as they bond together to heal, love, and grow.”

The series will include Whitney’s sister-in-law and manager Pat Houston, Pat’s daughter Rayah, Whitney’s daughter Bobbi Kristina (seen in the photo above from her “Next Chapter” interview with Oprah Winfrey), Whitney’s brother Gary (Pat’s husband), and her mother, Grammy® Award-winning singer Cissy Houston.

From the official press release:

Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law, manager and most trusted confidant, manages the business and estate of the beloved singer and her most prized possession, her daughter Bobbi Kristina. The series will follow Pat and her husband, Gary, Whitney Houston’s brother, as they take on their greatest challenge, supporting and guiding Bobbi Kristina as she faces the world alone, without the one person she relied on the most, her Mother.

The announcement has already drawn criticism from the media, accusing the network and the family of trying to capitalize on Whitney’s death, but Pat points out the series was something the family had already been working on. “I have been working with Simmons Shelley over the past few years developing a project suitable for myself and our family. The unexpected passing of Whitney certainly affects the direction of the show. However, it is my hope that others will be enlightened as they watch our family heal and move forward.”

So what do you think? Is this too much too soon? Will you be tuning in?

While you ponder that, here is the complete official press release from Lifetime Networks about The Houston Chronicles:

does anyone really care about the rest of the family? None of their voices touched us deeply and emotionally. Pretty sure people would have rather watched Whitney go through her struggles and come out ok than the family she leaves behind. I don’t understand Hollywood and never will so I give up.

    • Nikk

People did watch Whitney go through struggles, remember the show Being Bobby Brown? I won’t watch this. It is just another testament to the fact all these people care about is a dollar. If they’d been more concerned about Whitney as a human and not a cash cow they would have gotten her help or worked with her to get help. They didn’t, she’s dead, move on and learn to work like the rest of America. Are they going to show Bobbi Kristina snorting it up too because she was her mom’s drug buddy.

Who freakin cares?!!!? And who exactly the hell is her family. Anything for a buck right? Pathetic!

    • Dianna

ill give it a chance, wont down it until i watch it. although they do seem to have alot of secrets…and lie to keep them. i still think all shes going to really be known for is “crack is wack” lol. hey maybe they’re going to help her daughter stop doing crack by profiting off the show?? then she can afford for expensive drugs, because crack is cheap as much as it is wack as her mom stated. maybe she’ll start using heroin, thats the more expensive drug.

say what you want but her daughter never explained what she was doing in the pic that looked like she was snorting coke. she just said “its not what it looks like” ok, sooo what is it then?? what else could you be possibly be doing??

Sounds like a train wreck of a show, like “Being Bobby Brown”,
plus its too soon, I don’t understand why Cissy is going with this, do they need $$$$ that bad?

Since Whitneys Passing it has becomes known that both
her brother;s have had major addiction issues. Pat has nothing to brag about. Whitney’s last European tour
should not have happened. THe day she died, Whitney placed four calls to Pat who was doing business regarding her damn candles, Pat ignored all from calls
      from Whitney.
Pat is nothing short of oblivious. An overwhelming
number of Whitney fans have no interest and are downright angry at Pat for being for and about herself.
She is not interesting, her track record a Whitney’s manager is by far nothing to brag about.
She doesn’t even see m to know enough to feel any shame. BK does not need this. If she goes into a music
career she doesn’t need Pat or Gary around her, to do for her hat they did so well for Whitney.
Oprah BK did not want to do. That was purely for Pat
and Gary Houston. ENABLERS addicts a pasthetic bunch of snakes. This show will FAIl.
