VIDEO Giuliana and Bill Rancic are having a baby via a gestational carrier!

Last October Giuliana Rancic discovered that she had breast cancer while undergoing fertility treatments. In spite of that difficult news, Giuliana and her husband Bill continued pursuing their dream of having a baby. This morning the couple appeared on Today and revealed that they are indeed expecting thanks to a gestational carrier!

Here’s the video clip of the Rancics sharing their good news:

Just for a little clarification, because hey I needed it, the difference between a surrogate parent and a gestational carrier is that biologically the child is Bill and Giuliana’s; the gestational carrier brings the baby to term, but is not genetically related to the child in her womb. They are keeping the identity of their carrier private. Giuliana did add that she lives “out of state” and is a mother of two.

They also stated that the baby is due in late summer and that they already know the gender but are keeping that tight lipped as well.

This has been quite an emotional roller coaster for the couple as Giuliana previously suffered a miscarriage and while trying again to become pregnant her cancer was discovered. She credited her lost baby with saving her life.

As the couple discussed this news with Ann Curry, Bill said:

“This was our last stop. This was it. We had those two embryos that we had banked prior to learning about the breast cancer, and with the medicine she was on, this was our last effort. The prayers were answered.”

Giuliana  added:

“The more you focus on the positive, the more you are grateful for the good things in your life, the more good things come to you. I’ve really seen that. I have a great husband … and I have a baby on the way. What more can I ask for, really?”

Congrats on the wonderful news and to Giuliana and Bill for not giving up hope.

these two make me ill. why not adopt? there are thousands of children that are in desperate need of a home.

      • Patri

Are you kidding me? They make you ill? Some people want their own kids. Does that make them BAD people? NO. I bet if they could not have kids what so ever, they would adopt. I agree there are lot of kids to adopt. But at the end of the day people would rather have their own kids 1st and if that is not possible then adopt. I don’t see how that’s so horrible.

Tab- It’s funny you bring up adoption, again. I asked you before how many children you have adopted and you never answered. So I’ll ask you again. How many children have you adopted?

        • tab

i don’t have any adopted children because it costs so much money. if i were able to, i’d have a whole house full of adopted children.
these two can afford to adopt.
i’ve never seen you ask me about adoption before, but i’m not always good about going back to re-read comments.

You make me ill for not getting a better job to make more money and adopt all the world’s unwanted babies. Let me guess, thyroid problems?

            • tab

what does anyone having a thyroid issue have anything to do with adopting children? but since you asked, not for me. my thyroid works just fine, thanks. you clearly have some anger issues. hope you get some help for that!

let me clarify also, these two make me ill for MANY reasons, not just for choosing to have a child through another person.

      • Blahblahblah

That’s a little dramatic of you. They want a baby of their own, big deal.

      • Diana

Yes, there are thousands of children in need of homes. I won’t argue that. However, should the rest of the world stop having children because of this fact? Should we be socially responsible for every single person in this world? That’s just not realistic.

Looking down upon someone for wanting a biological child of their own is nothing if not ignorant and insensitive.

        • tab

show me where i said the whole world should stop having children because there are children that need homes.

I love these two, I am so happy for them! They will be wonderful parents.

    • Ladylow

If i couldn’t have my own baby but i had the money to pay someone to carry my baby i would. I understand why they did it and obviously they want it to be 100% them. There is nothing wrong with that.
i dont know then but they seem to be very nice ppl. Love them!
      Best of luck

I’m so happy for them :)

    • Danni

Just have to say that I am a gestational carrier for parents that cannot have their own child and I think that this is great. I am happy or them. Also my intended parents tried to adopt and the first one the mom changed her mind and the other two the birth mothers were on drugs! Do you honestly think a mother who is healthy with no problems is going to give up her baby? You are mistaken. Also with less stigma for unwed or teenage mothers there are less healthy babies to adopt. I don’t blame them for trying for their own and not adopting.

      • Diana

That’s a very selfless thing for you to do, and you should be very proud that you helped bring a child into the world for a mother who couldn’t.

Some people don’t realize the deep emotional need for a child with a biological link. While I agree that adopting is wonderful, it’s not always the best option. Each person has the right to choose what’s best for them.

In a lot of cases the mother really yearns for a connection to her child in utero, and having a gestational carrier gives her that option as she can be part of the process of pregnancy and feel as though she is truly involved.
