Teen Mom Kailyn Lowry's back tattoo

Getting big, bold tattoos is becoming a rite of passage for the stars of Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2! The latest serious entrant into tattoopalooza is Kailyn Lowry, who shared the above photo earlier today along with the tweet, “Back piece session 1.”

Like Jenelle Evans’ recent cherry blossom tree back tattoo, Kail’s tat seems to have a bit of Asian flair. It features a graceful white bird in the foreground along with some as-yet undetailed flower blossoms to the left. In the background looks to be a fantastical landscape reminiscent of a Yes album cover from the 1970s. It should be interesting to see the rest of the sessions and to find out the meaning from Kail.

UPDATE - It should be and it is! We just spoke with Kailyn who said this about her back masterpiece:

“It’s for Isaac. The top says ‘To the world you are one person but to one person you are the world. I.E.R.’ like its written in the sky so we are putting an original picture of paradise around the quote as the world.”

So there you have it! I guess the white bird is a bird of paradise :) Here’s a photo of the top of Kailyn’s back with the phrase she mentions. (You can watch her getting the tattoo in a Teen Mom 2 bonus clip HERE!)

Kailyn Lowry's back tattoo tribute to her son Isaac

UPDATE - Here’s a photo from stage 7 in Kailyn Lowry’s back tattoo process that she tweeted on June 28, 2012:

Kailyn Lowry's back tatoo in progress on June 28 2012

Now, back to our original post already in progress…

@sonofsam21 tweeted at Kail, “damnnnnn! That looks so ill!!! You got some ballllls tho…I heard back is PAINFUL …original design?!” And Kail responded by tweeting, “Painful but it’ll be worth it when it’s done. Working on my half sleeve too.”

For those aspiring Teen Momologists out there I thought I’d skim over some of the highlights of the history of the large scale skin inkage of the shows’ stars. First we had the undeniable queen of teen ink, Maci Bookout, and her complicated array of symbolic imagery on her back, followed by Amber Portwood’s good-intentioned but poorly executed abdominal tribute to her daughter Leah.

Jenelle Evans has been gaining quickly on Maci as she seems to be using her time at the tattoo parlor as a way to stay out of trouble, resulting in her own impressively massive array of back tats that includes the brand new massive cherry tree and blossom centerpiece.

The boys have gotten in on the game as well, with Maci’s ex Ryan Edwards getting a winged version of Bentley’s name on his side and Tyler Baltierra from the original Teen Mom getting a Batmanized version of his last name on his back.

Gary Shirley isn’t yet fully on board with the “massive” tats, but he has gotten a rather sizable stylized starburst on his chest.

she’ll regret it when she’s older!

    • allison

Stupid thing to waist her tax money of! By time she’s 70 it will look awful. I think Maci needs to stop as well! She’s getting out of control with hers and adding more! Ugh! Yuck! She’s ruining herself. She used to be so pretty

      • everyone

Obviously you “waisted” your time in grade school.

    • Stacie

She could’ve taken the money she paid for that and put it in her childs college fund that I’m sure she don’t have set up for him.

    • What in the World?!

See, this is what makes me so mad about “Teen Mom”. We are supposed to believe that these girls are struggling, yet then you see them in “real life” getting multiple tattoos, buying fake boobs and getting their hair and nails done frequently. What about this is real?! And wasn’t Kailyn one of the ones (along with Jenelle) complaining about not making enough money witht he show? Yet she gets a tattoo that costs hundreds of dollars? Unreal. I hope these “Teen Moms” are at least putting some money back for their children instead of just blowing it on hair extensions, bad dye jobs and hideous, huge tattoos. That tattoo is horrendous. Ugh!

    • Nikk

She might not! Why do people say that every time someone gets a tattoo? If this tattoo is representative of her child I doubt she will regret it. It is not like some random butterfly or heart tramp stamp that so many girls get just to be cool. Just because tattoos may not be one person’s cup of tea doesn’t mean they have to down others for their decisions to get them.

      • Diana

Exactly! I have a full sleeve on my left arm and I’ve never once regretted it…and it’s been there for 11 years! However, I spent a ton of time deciding exactly what I wanted and ultimately designing and sketching it myself.

    • sanoga

“It’s for Isaac.” Um…. how? Why do these girls always get trashy / weird tattoos and then claim “oh it’s for my child.” So how does spending a couple hundred dollars to get some weird middle-earth looking cliff thing tattooed on your back relate to / benefit your child?! I mean… if you want to get a trashy tattoo, fine. Just don’t say it’s “for” your child. That’s dumb.

And here’s an idea: if you really want to do something “for” your child, why don’t you put some of your Teen Mom money into a CD / IRA / money market account so that there’s actually some cash floating around by the time your kids are college-age.

      • BlahBlah

lol….”middle earth cliff thing” perfect description. For the life of me, I can’t figure out what the hell is going on there.

Ive said it before, I don’t mind these girls getting tattoos as long as they are good. The ones these girls are hideous and I’m almost embarassed for them.
And….”it’s for Isaac”….whatever. So if she decides to have another kid, guess her tattoo won’t “be” for them. And that quote just bothers me…”to one person you are the world” way to put yourself on that pedestal by your 2 year old, Kailyn. Weird.

    • natasha_jd

they should up the age limit for tattooes from 18 to 25

    • Mandy

Do I even need to say it’s hideous? That’s a given. But I really love the quote! “To the world you suck and are merely a bastard spawn of some teen sl*t. But to me, you’re my meal ticket and therefore my everything!”

      • rae

        lol… it’s funny cuz it’s true.

      • Kaylie

bahahahahahaha! That is so wrong, but oh so right.

    • Elle

That is so ugly. Hopefully it looks better finished, but still.
      What a waste of money!

    • Blahblahblah

Trashtastic. That quote is so lame and overdone too. I’m not sure why parents get their kids’ names tattooed on them…..are they going to forget!? Its not like any child has ever seen it and gone “wow, I’m really loved” How about investing that money into your future, or your kid’s?

    • Jeannine

A few months down the road and I bet she’ll have a nice tramp stamp to show off. Ugh.

    • Emily

Justifying the tattoo because it’s “for your kid” is the stupidest shit I’ve ever heard. Your kid doesn’t give a crap about your giant back mural, and won’t be touched that you “did it for him”. “Oh mom, thank you SO much for dropping hundreds of dollars on a BACK TATTOO. FOR ME. YOU’RE TOO KIND MOM”. C’mon, surely she has a better use for the money she wasted on this tramp stamp. Paying for her own college and not taking out so much for a loan maybe?

    • Ceci

      DUMB TATTOOS

    • Ladylow

Don’t like them…. I agree with nost of the commments.
I mean why does it have to be so massive!?
Why not something small that means something to YOU that represents the love YOU have for your child??
I don’t understand it. She can di whatever she wants to her body bc its hers. Im 25 and i still think twice about getting ink and if i ever do get ink it’ll be for me not for my husband or my kids.

    • Honestlyme

Probably got it to cover that back acne :|

    • Ashley

The quote was fine, wouldn’t be my choice but it wasn’t hideous, however the rest of that tattoo….you can’t even tell what it is…the bird looks more like a flying unicorn or something to me…

    • hanna

i like the saying, not sure about the other stuff,i wanted to get don’t let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game. but like i said i dont know about the rest of the tattoo but good words

      • everyone

Wow that’s the corniest thing I’ve ever heard.

        • hanna

how is it corniest thing you heard, if you know baseball you’d understand the logic of it.

    • tab

tattoos are trashy. i don’t care if they are “meaningful” or not. they look trashy.

    • k

everyone has tattoos – rich/poor – whoever! im surprised at how cruel people are towards these girls. she can do whatever she wants.. im sure your parents by things for themselves.. not just for y’all

    • sam

funny how no one seems to have a problem with macy’s tatts. that girl is covered.

      • ER

Check out any post of Maci’s tattoos on here. I’m pretty sure most people do not have nice things to say about hers- mostly along the lines of too big, too ugly, too expensive.

      • tab

actually, a lot of people spoke out about her tattoos. i thought the cupcakes tattooed on her body were especially hideous.

    • Conspiracy Man

Tattoos don’t mean anything. They just make the wearer look like they are shallow and vapid. The real meaning in someone’s life can be found in their actions. If you have to resort to declaring your intentions and beliefs on your skin, that probably means that they aren’t apparent to others who know you.

      • chrissy

I have 3 tattoos and I’m far from being shallow or vapid. My favorite one is my mom’s favorite flower who died when I was 13 so try to tell me again how tattoos don’t mean anything to people. I smile every time I see it because it reminds me how happy she was gardening.

      • Kitty

I, like the chrissy, am far from being shallow and vapid. I go to a great college, and donate and volunteer with ASPCA. All of my tattoos have meaning to me and just because you don’t agree with getting tattooed doesn’t mean you have to resort to calling people you don’t know over the internet vapid and shallow.

    • jess

wow harsh much? every time one of teen moms takes a crap the wrong way everyone is so quick to judge & has something to say! people get tattoos all the time, doesn’t make you trashy or a bad parent.

      • tab

when these girls decided to put their lives on tv, they chose to be under the microscope for criticism. i don’t feel badly at all about commenting on anything that has to do with them. and i don’t think stating my opinion about tattoos being trashy is harsh at all. i’m entitled to my opinion just as you are entitled to yours. i didn’t say it made her a bad person or a bad mother. i personally think tattoos are trashy and a waste of money, even if they are meaningful.

    • Jessica

Wow.. that looks awful! Miss “poor me” that always whines about not having money, and having to rely on government assistance, but has enough money to afford a crappy tattoo and designer bags. She loves to blame others for EVERYTHING in her life… so in a couple years when she realizes that is the UGLIEST tattoo… I guess she will be blaming Isaac??

    • steph

ugly! i dont have tattoos and i will never get one!

      • Conspiracy Man

Wow. What are you . . . some kind of rebel? What do you have against following the crowd? Come on – it would not hurt you to just follow the pack and join in with all the other followers. Get off your high horse and stop trying to be such an independent thinker.

        • Sweet Venom

Wow can someone say bahh? What are you a sheep? Why would you ever tell someone to follow the crowd? I have never done anything just because everyone else has done it. I don’t care what anyone else is doing, whether it’s following the crowd, or doing their own thing, but what right do YOU have to tell someone to follow the crowd? All the person said was that they don’t like tattoos and will never get one and that my friend is quite refreshing to hear from someone. Always strive to be an independent thinker people! Don’t listen to this sheep!

    • Brandi

I’m not a fan of tattoos anyway, but that looks particularly bad.

    • KH

I don’t think tattoos are trashy at all! My sister has 7 of them and they all look good. One in particular I don’t like but it’s not my body nor my place to judge her tattoos. Just like its not our place to judge Kail on her tattoos. Yes, you are entitled to your own opinion and you can say that you don’t like it but basically calling her a bad mom for spending her money on a tattoo instead of in a trust fund for Isaac is not okay. She might have a trust fund already set up for him! We don’t know. She is a good mom and if she wants to spend some of her money on a tattoo that is okay. A lot of the girls (& some of the guys) on teen mom/teen mom 2/16 & pregnant have tattoos. I personally love Maci Bookout’s bulletproof tattoo!

I can’t wait to get my first tattoo!

Ok, so you all have an opinion, does it really mean you need to argue amongst yourselves?
You can have your say without being rude towards people, if you like tattoos great show support or give advice about talented artists and if you dont simply say its not my style I would prefer to spend on or buy such and such a thing!!!
Personally I love tattoos and peircings, I have many of them, although they are large there also in places I feel are suitable as I am able to cover them if I so wish to, now I was 19 when I fell pregnant and became a single mam due to a partner who turned out to be quite the opposite of which I once beleived he was, none the less I have had many tattoos done since having my beautiful son…
Even though at times I have moaned with the best of them, cried, wailed and struggled to make ends meet but unlike most I dont go out clubbing, taking drugs, having flash holidays or spoiling myself regulary with designer clothes, handbags etc, dont get me wrong I do own these things but thats because I take care of things which I recieve especially gifts etc… As for acyrillic nails and hair styles etc… I put myself through college and learnt the trade whilst gaining qualifications so i need not spend fortunes relying on other people to do it for me……
Now for those who are sat there thinking that spending some of my own earnt money on tattoos for myself is a selfish thing as I could be buying this and that for my son, this is where you should ask yourself if this attitude is judgemental or even narrow minded??? You see…. before I do anything of the sort, which is well deserved by the way, I ensure my gorgeous little man has everything he needs as much as humanly possible of what he wants and money put away into 3 seperate accounts on a weekly basis, therefore he is in immediate need for anything and everyone that knows us would tell you that, as I am a very loving and caring mother.
I may of been young, had benefits and have tattoos but I’ve also worked since I was 14, taken care of practically every child in the neighbourhood at one time or another, given pocket money to my brothers and paid my parents rent before moving into my own home at a very young age but none of it is important really!!!
All that matters in the end is that I had a beautiful baby boy, who after all the heartache and hard work turned into an amazing young man whom I could never be any prouder of, my son saved my life and I would not been the person I am today if I had not of been blessed with him…. So tattooed or not, workers or not, wealthy or not, in the end the only real riches are the smiles which show you the unconditional love of your children, hopefully some of you can understand that and let others be just who they are because no matter what is on the outside its who we are as people that count……. Lifes short treat others with the respect and courtesy you would like to be shown from them……. xXx

I wonder what this will look like when she is 80.
