Arguably the most celebrated celebrity baby since the invention of the internets will soon have its name trademarked by momma and daddy.
Yeppers, Blue Ivy Carter™ will soon be the trademark property of Jay-Z and Beyonce so that the struggling couple trying to make ends meet (I Keed… 99 Problems etc…) can later use it for a future line of baby cosmetics, diaper bags, baby strollers and other wonderful must have toddler accessories. Wait one second, did I just write baby cosmetics (this could include skin care products I suppose)!?! In all fairness this is common practice by celeb parents to protect their child’s name from being attached to any and everything under the sun.
The crafty world of small business was all about trying to get their trademark on with various formations of the Blue Ivy name but were unceremoniously rejected. The trademark office said, “no way baby,” to these filings reminding peeps that there was a rather famous new baby with said name and that using said name might indicate that their products were approved by Jay-Z and Beyonce.
In fact the fine people who oversee trademark applications weren’t born yesterday and even anticipate massive filings that might occur from pop culture phenomenons. So even before the Blue Ivy paperwork started hitting their desks they were already ready to reject. Once again we have proof that this is little Carter’s world and we’re all just living in it.
The Washington Post pointed out, however, that there is one very lucky boutique in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. You see, this clothing store called “Blue Ivy” filed for trademark before Beyonce was even pregnant and received approval on Aug 23rd. Now these lucky store owners can use “Blue Ivy” on any original products they sell. Or they might just sell said trademark to Jay-Z and Beyonce for a handsome price.
Funny enough someone gave the owners a heads up about their good fortune via Facebook and it didn’t seem like they were quite aware of the goldmine they’re sitting on. On that note, I’ve gotta go make a phone call – plan B since I can’t run with the Blue Ivy Carter™ party pacifier plan.
