Amber Portwood testifies that she will quit Teen Mom

Amber Portwood from Teen Mom goes to therapy class in Anderson, Indiana

Sometimes you’ve got to go right to the source and Anderson, Indiana’s own The Herald Bulletin has the most detailed information on Teen Mom Amber Portwood’s latest legal troubles.

She actually wasn’t in the courtroom to start off with, her most recent courtroom appearance was via video conference from the Madison County Jail where Portwood is currently being held. As we reported, the troubled star of Teen Mom is in custody at least until a hearing scheduled for Jan. 27. When Amber heard the decision from Judge David Happe that she would remain in jail she, “dropped her head into her hands and rubbed her eyes.”

Amber’s attorney, Evan Broderick, had requested in-home detention at her grandparent’s house citing the fact that she had no criminal history prior to the infamous beat down of baby-daddy Gary Shirley that was aired on the show. Amber testified to the judge about her participation in rehab out in Malibu. She explained that after her release she visited a doctor because of pain in her back and was prescribed hyrdrocodone. She admitted to abusing the pain killers and that this contributed to her probation violations.

Then the real bombshell from the hearing came. She told the judge that she felt pressured and exploited via her work on MTV. She is quoted as testifying:

“I want to quit [Teen Mom], and I will.”

Her attorney backed that statement up by claiming that Amber just wants to lead a normal life.

Maybe this is a good idea for Amber. She’s said before that being in the spotlight has negatively affected her life, and perhaps a return to normalcy will help her get her life back on track. I hope that she does the right thing for herself and Leah.

    • kel

Unfortunately, I think its too late for her to lead a normal life…

    • lauren

I hate Amber anyways shes a b!tch but she doesnt deserve to be in all this trouble but then again its no one but herself who causes it.

    • Mom of 4

Quitting Teen Mom is the best thing she could do! These girls don’t realize what they are getting into. Most of them don’t have the best parental guidance and I think if they did their parents could have informed them as to what it would be like after the show. Especially for the girls who have been on more than one season.

“Her attorney backed that statement up by claiming that Amber just wants to lead a normal life.”

Let’s see: extreme narcissism, single motherhood, drug abuse, no education, bringing a string of trashy men into her child’s life, overweight — I would say she IS leading a normal life for a modern American woman.

      • Dawn

That’s such an ignorant statement, God bless your negative ass.

      • Tabitha P

        WOW! Really?

      • tab

what kind of women are you hanging around? because that’s not the norm where i live or within the group of friends i keep.

    • Crystal

I dont agree with you Nathan. I am a single mom of 2 boys ages 10 and 3.I had my first child at 23 years old but her actions are something Ive never done and I am an American woman. Not every single mother does those things and we all feel pressure regardless if your on Tv or not.

I think its the best thing, she was never introuble before and to nathan u r an idiot dude lol get real, i feel sorry for her and gary is just as bad, he treated her so badly in the beginning and she got tired of it and hit his a$$, but i dont think she deserves to sit in jail until jan 27 thats ridiculous , for something she did 2 years ago, i hope she gets her life together

      • Jenn

I think she is in jail this time because of the Ihop fight

      • Kellie

She is in jail for probation violations…many of them. To say she doesn’t deserve the trouble she is in is naive at best. No one did this to her but her. The only innocent one in this situation is baby Leah. Gary isn’t a prize but he at least is taking responsibility for his child.

To Nathan, where is Amber fat? That is the one and only thing I will give her credit for is losing all the baby weight. She looks good. Nathan you are a moron and it appears that you are misogynistic. Go troll somewhere else.

teen mom has only put a spotlight on her issues, she’s had a troubled life since she was young and probably would have been in the same situation without the cameras. in fact, it could be worse because without her mtv paychecks and connections, there’s no way she could have afforded that swanky rehab in malibu.
she has a contract with mtv. i doubt they’ll just let her walk away.

    • Christine

I think she should quit as well. The question is what will she do? She never even got a GED. I hope part of her sentence includes her having to get GED & going to vocational rehab to get a skill/trade/college. If she quit teen mom and doesn’t further her education or training I see her just trying to get back with Gary and the cycle of abuse and fighting would continue. The person hurt the most by this is Leah.

    • Barbara

The contract that she has with MTV is only for one more season and that has been filmed already. MTV is not filming the orginal Teen Mom cast, they have no interest in them. They have the Teen Mom 2 cast who are still teen moms, and they will start to cast a new teen mom from their 16 and pregnant cast. If they were still interested in teen mom, they would have sent a film crew to her araignment in Anderson, IN and they did not do that. She is 21 already, she will be 22 in May, the other girls are 20, some will be 21 soon, it’s done for her, she has to get a real job, and who knows if she will ever be able to.

      • Carmen

The majority of the time cameras are not allowed in the courtrooms that’s probably why there weren’t any in ambers hearing the judge probably didn’t allow it. Everytime Gary and we would go to the courthouse the cameras wouldn’t go in.

    • Crystal

Amber I think your an awesome mommy but what u dud to.gary its not a joke its something serious have u thought of what future your going to give leah shes probably going to be like why mommy.why were u in jail & feeding her fast foods like mcdonalds its not a gud idea gary u need to stop eating those things & loose sum weight your stomach grosses me out sorry

      • LolwhAt

So overweight people gross you out? Lol I love that everyone stereotypes everyone else it’s pretty damn sad. In a world where it’s cheaper to eat fast food then to go buy a healthy meal to cook, what do you expect single parents to do? Once in a while isn’t bad but over doing it is not good. Again everything is okay in moderation when you take it to excess or extremes is when it turns bad. Grow up people

    • whitney

Some people are just so annoying on here! Who cares what she did in the past! let the girl breath! their’s worse parents out their, and ur acting like she killed some1! stupid ppl

    • JMH

It was SO obvious that Amber was addicted to pain killers. On the show, when she was laying in bed, texting manically; I often thought “this girl is totally pill sick. And she can’t get out of bed until she finds some pills!”.

It is so obvious to me, in part, because my brother in law has ruined his life with an addiction to prescription pain killers. He will lay around and do nothing except text, text, text and call, call, call until he finds what he’s looking for. Then, he’s up and going to get it. As soon as he finds himself with no more pills; it’s back to bed and text, text, text.

    • Lori

If that is how she feels then she shouldve never signed up for it. She lays around all the time and puts leah in the bed and expected gary to do it all and she ha had plenty of time to get her life straightend out. Its not MTV’s fault she is just lazy.

    • Kaylie

MTV doesn’t cause people to do the things Amber does. Amber does them all on her own, and I am so sick of hearing it’s everyone else’s fault. She should be thanking MTV. Had MTV not done what it did and aired that footage, Amber and Gary would most likely still be together in their volatile, abusive relationship with Leah plopped in the center of it all.

I am a firm believer that fan support has helped Gary stay out of Amber’s life once and for all. I don’t think he’s the best dad, but he loves Leah and seems to have a much better head on his shoulders than Amber ever will. The only thing Teen Mom will do is keep Amber’s issues off a reality series. People like myself will still follow and criticize her when she’s wrong, not because I care even the smallest bit about her, but because I have grown to fall in love with Leah and all the children, and I genuinely want them to be given the best opportunity possible.

      • Mandy

When people say they watch the show for the kids, that is BS. They show 5 seconds of those kids per episode. The show is all about the girls and so are the viewers. This show shows almost abosolutely nothing of what being a mom is like. They are all coddled like babies themselves. I rarely see them cooking, doing laundry, and having to take kids to appointments and getting them involved in activities. With all the money they make, you’d think some of the kids would be involved in swimming lessons or baby gymnastics.

        • Kaylie

It is BS that I care about the future of our country getting ample opportunity to excel? I never said that the children are the reason I watch the show. I said I watch the show to see that the children are getting the attention and opportunities they deserve. I’ll never deny that watching a Barb/Jenelle beatdown advertized brings me to watch an episode, but I will also defend myself in saying that “Where is Jace?” definitely sits in my mind as they go at it. It’s significant to me that when I pick up a magazine in 15 years and they do a small segment on “What Happened to the kids of Teen Mom?” towards the back, I see that every single child is going to college/pursuing their own dreams with money that their parents stashed away for them while their toddler years were plastered across television screens against their own will. As much as I enjoy the show, I don’t think any child, whether it be children like the Gosselin kids or the Teen Mom kids, should be the carrying force behind a television series because their parents said it’s okay. It’s usually not benefiting a child when their face is plastered everywhere, and that’s just a fact. Preying on naive parents, especially TEENAGE parents, is something I’m surprised television networks didn’t think of 10 years ago. People who are desperate for easy money, whether it be a hoarder/addict/teenage parent, usually make good television because you don’t become desperate for money without something being dysfunctional about you. And dysfunctional people bring in ratings from normal people.

    • Jessica

It’s a little too late now the original teen mom girls already filmed their last season. So all this I want to quit teen mom is a bunch of BS teen mom was not a problem for Amber when she was making 250,000 last year.

Teen mom was not a problem when she brought tickets and had a limo drive her and couple of her friends to the colts game teen mom was not problem when she went on a shopping spree with her ex boyfriend.

Teen mom was not problem for Amber when she was getting mtv checks was getting a better apartment in better area in town. And teen mom was not problem when she was able to afford rehab in Mailbu like Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears.

This why I get upset with some of the girls they blamed editing and the show for all their problems when they look bad on MTV.

Mtv didn’t put a gun to Amber head or any of the others girls to continue to do the show they wanted what comes with being on television the fame, the money the “so called fans ” magazine covers.

But not when it comes to being judged and people talking about them I bet any of the other girls from 16 and pregrant would have loved to trade places with Amber. It’s easy now for Amber to blame mtv and call them out but when she was on top and making money it was all good.

Amber grow up and starting act like adult not a 3 year old child you are just like everyone else in world when you go on probation there are conditions and rules. That you have to follow you don’t follow the rules you get your ass throw in jail like everyone else.

And you blow it because you thought you were not going to get caught and you thought you were above the law because you are on teen mom. The world does not owe you a damn thing so stop acting like it and you should be thankful that you have Gary and his mom taking care of Leah.

Because Cps could have easily put Leah in foster care like they do to so many other kids when they have a parent who is unfit thank god for Gary because he might not be smartest guy in the world. But he loves his daugther and he is trying his best to be a better father and person and more people need to be support of him. Instead of knocking him down so much he is doing the best he can

      • Stupidlicious

        very well said

      • Lexxie

I like Gary, but then I’m not your typical poster on this site. I’m in my 40′s with a career, one I had to get an education to do.
Gary needs to lose some weight (for his health and to live long enough to see Leah Grown and not suffer a heart attack, etc.), but other than that, I’ve seen him read to her, sing, play and interact with his child. During the first few seasons, before Amber went completely nuts, and he worked, the first thing he did when he came home was pick up his child. I bet when the cameras aren’t around he interacts even more with her. Leah has always responded well to Gary, happy to see him and was upset when he’d leave, something she never did toward her ‘mother’.
Amber’s interactions have always seemed phony, except when she’s yelling at that child or flat-out ignoring her. She acts like Leah is an incontinence and a burdened. One things for certain, I’m glad Gary has custody, it’s the best thing for Leah.

If Amber quits Teen Mom, who’ll pay for her housekeeper? Since she doesn’t have Gary or Leah any longer, who will she blame for her sh!tty life? Will she resort, like Janelle, to blaming her ‘friends’?…time will tell, stay tuned.

        • Lexxie

          pardon, inconvenience ***lol, funny mistake.

      • lynnie

Amber is a drug addict. Nobody leaving rehab after 30 days thinks it is ok to take hydrocodone. It’s morphine. Plain and simple she knew better but she liked the buzz.

        I’m bi-polar, I have a bad back, I’m suicidal…blah blah blah

Shape up and grow up and stop blaming everybody but yourself for your stupid actions.

      • Penny

And Teen Mom was obviously not a problem when she was using her money to buy those ridiculous eyelashes! Lmao

But seriously, the powers that be over at MTV should’ve been smarter about how they paid these teen girls and started a college fund for their babies. Did they really expect for a TEENAGER to be wise about spending their money?

    • Wanda

Umm she has to quit. They already finished season 4 which will be the final season (or almost finished) so worst case she doesn’t do the reunion. It’s all a ploy to get sympathy.

    • OhMyGeez

Damage is done. If she acts the way she does on TV for all to see, I’d hate to see how she is when the cameras aren’t rolling. Girl needs serious help and people in her life who will not coddle her, make excuses for and support her crappy behavior.

    • Honestypolicy

Teen Mom isn’t to blame….if anything, it should have helped her, but she’s too dumb to use it to her advantage. They all are.
Her life won’t turn around until she learns how to act and how to carry herself in public. At the end of the day, these girls are (quite unfairly) given an oppurtunity to turn the difficult situations they made for themselves into something that could really benefit not only them, but their children too….. You know how many young moms would be so grateful for that apparent steady income that affords these MTV losers new cars, hair extensions and designer bags. She’s completely squandering any oppurtunity to turn things around. I can’t feel bad for someone who continuously makes their own messes and won’t learn from their mistakes.

    • SarahK

This girl desperately needed a reality check, and time behind bars is exactly that! Jail will knock those feelings of entitlement right out of her!!! And hopefully it will put her on the right path to turning her life around and becoming a better mother too.

I believe that Amber is a good person in the inside, she may have done some bad & horrible thing but she’s one of my favorite on the show.
Jus because she make mistakes doesn’t mean NO BODY make mistakes nobody is perfect,I don’t think she needs to leave the show, when I watch the show its like she’s teaching ppl that having a child is the most important thing & it is the most important thing, but some people may be doing that same exact thing she could be their role model to improving their life.I don’t care what people say but AMBER IS THE BEST F*** WHAT PEOPLE GOT TO SAY.NOBODY IS PREFECT.while she’s in jail she should be thinkin bout what she wants to change bout her self when if she gets out,try to do things differently & the smart way, when her daughter grows up she’s gonna wanna do the same thing.
I really think she should stay on the show & to prove people that she’s an different person.

    • http://facebook Elizabeth

She may just need to leave Gary alone he’s not nobody but the babies father, she really don’t even have to have a relationship to be happy, for real though she needs to make smart ideas to the best of her ability.Because things are already worse, things always happen for a reason, some things she can change & some things she can’t change.
It would be best if she stayed on the show.
Keep your head up Amber Portwood!!!
