Next week marks the three year anniversary of the tragic death of Derek Underwood, the father of Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham’s daughter Sophia, who turns three in February. Derek’s mother Stormie Clark has put together a Christmas themed video tribute to her son featuring numerous photos of Derek from when he was a little boy until just before his car accident on December 28, 2008.

Stormie was kind enough to speak with us and here is what she had to say about the video:

“Derek passed away on December 28th, 2008. This time of year is extremely difficult for me. That is why I made the video. It helps me with my grieving in some way.. It makes me feel closer to him. Sharing his memories with others is a good thing.

“I also hope and pray that Farrah allows me to see Sophia someday soon. I believe that it would help Farrah’s and my grieving. I hope that Farrah understands and respects these videos that I made of Derek, and will show them to Sophia.

“I added Farrah to Derek’s video for a reason. Derek loved Farrah, and that’s all that matters.”

It’s nice to see Stormie extending an olive branch to Farrah. (As you may know, she and Farrah had a bitter legal battle over visitation rights to Sophia in which the court decided against Stormie.) We’d like to thank Stormie for sharing the video and for taking the time to talk with us about it. The clip should help remind us all how invaluable the lives of our loved ones are. Rest in peace Derek.

Farrah- if you’re reading this, Please let Sophia see her grandmother. So you two didn’t get along. So what! It isn’t about you honey. It is all about your baby girl not having her grandmother in her life. And you are the reason for it. Do what is right Farrah.
Sophia needs all of the family that she can get. Not just your family. You are sinning. I thought you and your family were supposedly religious??? It’s time to grow up and be an adult! Be a mother and suck it up! No child can ever have too much love.
When Sophia is old enough and understands that you kept her father’s family away from her all this time, you will get what you deserve.

If I remember correctly, Derek’s mom all but demanded to see Sophia and she did not call Farrah directly, but sent a letter through a lawyer. Actions like that would put anyone on the defensive. Farrah has had no problems letting the other members of Derek’s family see Sophia. It’s all in the approach.

If I remember correctly Dereks mom tried to deny sophia was Derek’s child and was the main reason Farrah was denied his SS benefits for Sophia…….why should she be allowed to see her grandchild?? I think this woman is a disgrace! Just because she is Sophia’s grandmother doesn’t automatically give her rights…obviously there is more to the story or the court would have granted her visitation rights!!!!

This is so sad. I hope that Farrah and Derek’s mother can work things out. After all it is about little Sophie and not Farrah. God bless you all and thoughts and prayers are with Farrah and Derek’s family at this time of year. <3

@Amy… I am a friend of Derek’s family. There is no more to the story why Derek’s mother wasn’t granted visitation rights. In the state of Iowa you have to have had a substantial relationship with the child in order to get visitation. Well Stormie was not allowed to see Sophia because Farrah didn’t like Stormie.
Farrah’s family is full of whackos!! As you have seen on teen mom. Derek’s family doesn’t have a criminal background unlike Farrah’s parents! As far as Stormie supposedly blocking Sophia’s ss benefits – she only tolthe truth. Stormie had no ideas that g

Stormie had no idea that Farrah was even pregnant. Farrah never told Derek when he was alive! She was filming 16 and pregnant without Derek knowing! So if ya’ll wanna blame someone, blame Farrah! None of you know what is going on so shut your mouths! Stormie lost her son and can’t see her granddaughter bcuz of Farrah! Farrah is not even human! And neither is her mother or father.   You say that Farrah didn’t tell Derek that she was pregnant; how is that possible when Farrah told the story of him coming to her house and wanting to have sex when she was four months pregnant. Someone as thin as her at four months would start showing; unless he thought she was just bloated.. I am sure he knew, but just didn’t get around to telling his family yet.

If Farrah is so horrible then why did Stomie want nothing to do with Sophia until she got famous? Then on top of it call all the tabloids demanding money for pics of her son and interviews. When none of them even offered to interview her. If she really wanted to genuinely see her why didn’t she try when Sophia was born? I am not saying Farrah is a saint either. All Stormie wants is her fifteen minutes of fame.

@kaykay Do I need to tell you people Again?? Farrah never liked stormie and vice versa. Stormie went to no tabloids. They called her all the time. So get off your high horse! I think no one can really comment on the story of Farrah and Derek as its a one sided story , Derek is no longer here to tell his side of the story and Farrah is only going to say what she wants ppl to hear … Im not siding with any 1 here as i do feel for Farrah but more so for a little girl who did’nt ask for any of this a little girl who will never know her daddy , thats the sad part of it all … I think ppl need to grow up and start putting her first .. and As for Dereks mum , what ever ppl say abt her , she has lost her son … that in its self is a tragedy and can make ppl act in a way that they might not normal act , but bad mouthing a mother for grieving her son is very low … ppl need a reality check …

David, while it’s noble of you to try and stand up for Derek’s family, you also probably have no idea what you’re talking about. Judging by the fact that Farrah has let everyone except Stormie get a chance to meet Sophia, it seems there is much more to their history then Farrah simply “disliking” her. The person that Stormie has made herself out to be in interviews, and the person Farrah potrays herself as on television make me believe the hate for each other was VERY MUCH a two way street.

Why would Stormie all of a sudden have such an interest in Sophia? If she wasn’t sure enough that she was Derek’s child to grant Farrah and Sophia SS, then why the hell does she think she’s Derek’s child when it comes to her getting to see Sophia for visitation? She served Farrah with those papers so soon after she denied Sophia was even Derek’s child, then she expected Farrah to just let that happen? Stormie doesn’t even want her grandchild to benefit from her son financially, yet Stormie wants to benefit from the fame of Farrah and Sophia being on television. Seems a little sketchy to me……

Wow. I can honestly see Farrah doing something like that just to be on national television. Using an innocent child to make yourself Famous is absolute insanity. Children are gifts from God. Not pawns.. Teen mom show is definitely overrated. I will not let my teenage daughter watch that show. Thank God she has a good head on her shoulders.

I’m pretty sure that Derek’s mom Never once said that Sophia was not her granddaughter. We can all try and try to analyze this all we want but the bottom line is that Sophia is without a grandmother who loves her and is her sons daughter.
It is just evil keeping Sophia from Her own family because of Farrah. I have no respect for her at all! You can definitely tell that Farrah is only interested in the cameras and her 5 minutes of fame. All because she purposely got pregnant at 16 just to be famous! Sick! Sick! Sick!
