Straight off of his divorce from Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher was very opening flirting with Glee’s Lea Michele on the red carpet for New Year’s Eve last week. They were laughing, touching, nuzzling, and doing everything but making out.
This, of course, led the gossip mill to wonder if these two were canoodling in real life.
If they aren’t, Lea Michele might want to. During a taped interview Lea basically asked Ashton to be her New Year’s Eve date, but . . . . he turned her down (in a joking manner.)
Lea seemed to really be hoping he’d say yes when she proposed: “What are you going to do for New Year’s? Why don’t you come celebrate with my big Italian family and me? They would die.”
But, Ashton acted blindsided, and tried to quickly deflect with a 2012 joke: “I don’t know where I’m going to be on New Year’s, I haven’t sorted it out. I was gonna try to crash a UFO into the Mayan temples just to see how people would react to that.”
Awkward! Note to everyone: Don’t try to ask out your costars during a press interview.
Lea’s had a crush on Ashton for a while. She told New York Magazine that when New Year’s Eve director Garry Marshall asked her who she wanted as her co-star in the massive ensemble flick, Ashton was her top choice, but she didn’t want to say because she thought he was “out of her league.”
Garry Marshall must have read her mind (or noticed that she turned into a puddle of goo when his name was mentioned), because Ashton is exactly who got the part.
Garry was like, “Who do you think is cute? What guys do you like? Who do you want to be in this movie with you?” And I was like, “I don’t know, I’ve never been asked before!” I didn’t mention Ashton’s name just because, I gotta say, I kinda felt like he was a little out of my league. You know, this guy’s like, the hottest guy, and then when they called and said that Ashton was doing it, I was really freaked out. I thought I should have picked someone else and said, “You have to use this person!” so I wouldn’t have been nervous. But I’m so glad, because he challenged me, and it was a really great pairing, I think.
Despite Ashton’s deflection, he supposedly stayed glued to Lea the entire night of the premiere, and the pair barely spoke to anyone else. They might be flirting, and maybe even hooking up, but at this point it doesn’t look like Ashton wants anything too serious, especially considering he has a lot of issues to work through with his cheating and divorce from Demi Moore.
