Gretchen Rossi and Slade Smiley host fundraiser for his son Grayson

It appears The Real Housewives of Orange County‘s Slade Smiley is taking Tamra Barney’s accusations from last season’s Reunion Special that he is a “deadbeat dad” to heart. Although he is still unemployed from his real estate job after the market crash a few years ago, he and girlfriend Gretchen Rossi are putting their fame to work for his son by sponsoring a fundraiser for him Tuesday night at the Victor Paul Salon in Costa Mesa, California.

Here is the full press release for the event:

Gretchen Christine Rossi and Slade Smiley host charity benefit to raise funds for Beckstrand Cancer Foundation on Tuesday, November 22nd at the Victor Paul Salon in Costa Mesa.

Costa Mesa, CA, November 15th, 2011 – One of Orange County’s Favorite Housewives Gretchen Christine Rossi & Slade Smiley host “The Magic of Giving” an evening of top entertainment including a performance by acclaimed Illusionist Anthony Hernandez (Anthony The Magic) on Tuesday, November 22nd at 7:30pm at the Victor Paul Hair Salon in Costa Mesa to benefit Beckstrand Cancer Foundation. The evening will also include a silent auction, musical performances and a delicious assortment of appetizers provided by the Orange County Restaurant Association and their supporting restaurant partners & desserts provided by Sweet Spils.

Gretchen and her boyfriend Slade felt compelled to do a fundraiser benefiting cancer patients and their families to create awareness for the challenges families face both emotionally and financially when a loved one receives a cancer diagnosis. They know all too well the challenges cancer poses to patients and their families as they are currently battling the cancer of Slade’s son Grayson. “When my son Grayson was diagnosed with Brain Cancer, I was not just emotionally destroyed by the diagnosis of cancer, but after 7 brain surgeries and no cure, I was financially destroyed by the disease” expressed Slade Smiley. Slade chose Beckstrand Cancer Foundation as the beneficiary for this event as he felt “Beckstrand understands the financial strains that cancer can place on a family and they are offering individuals and family’s financial hope. Hope to get back on their feet, pay the mortgage or just put food on the table.”

Beckstrand Cancer Foundation helps bridge the gap between research and conventional social services by providing financial assistance, patient advocacy, counseling and more. To learn more about the services offered, please visit www.beckstrand.org

Tickets for the Magic of Giving Benefit are $50 available at www.victorpaulsalon.com. The Victor Paul Salon is located at 763 Baker Street in Costa Mesa. Complimentary valet parking will be available.

If you look at the bottom of the poster you will notice that it says “Note: This is a filmed event,” so I imagine it will be featured on the upcoming season of The Real Housewives of Orange County – much to Tamra’s chagrin I’m sure.

The event follows on the heels of Slade participating in the Calabasas Classic 10K to Benefit the Talbert Family Foundation, a charity organization set up for his son, Grayson. Here is a photo of Slade Smiley and his son Grayson at the run:

In case you were unaware, Grayson was diagnosed with a brain tumor (Diffuse Fibrillary Astrocytoma) in 2006 just after turning six years old. Grayson’s mother, Michelle Arroyo, has set up a website for him at amazinggray.org with a detailed history of his diagnosis as well as lots of photos and information on how you can donate directly to Grayson.

Michelle has been rather outspoken about the lack of financial support she has received from Slade Smiley with some reports stating he owed as much as $138,000 in child support as of February of 2011. It’s nice to see Slade and Gretchen trying to help out – let’s all hope Grayson is able to get the money and the treatment he needs!

oh please Slade is a LOOSER, your son is sick and you can not find a JOB….try Mcdonalds! but no it’s beneath him and he would rather hook up w/ low -self esteem housewifes …
His son is very sick and they get NO support from this sperm donor!

      • Ben

I love it when idiots like Sissi post about things they don’t know. I do know how Slade supports his son. His last donation 7 months ago was over $20,000. We processed the payment. The guy works like crazy, I know the accounts he has and they are major fortune 500 companies. The only looser is someone like you talking out your blow hole. When is the last time you did any charity?

        • OneWhoKnows

“Ben” is Slade Smiley. Nice try Slade. …

          • Sly

So the problem is Mr. Smiley needs his child support reduced? Is he paying the reduced amount? That he himself says he can afford? That is the question.

      How cute is Grayson

It is commendable that Gretchen & Slade are having this event, BUT to have it while filming or I mean to schedule it while filming ….that is not right, because even tho its raising money for a charity, it will be shown [somewhat] on a reality TV show, is that good marketing? or is that good TV producing?

    • Sissi

Slade and gretchen stop commenting back on all the blogs!!!!! nobody like you, get a job Slade and Gretchen stop showing up w/ dirty pictures on “the dirty”,buy you some self esteem and find you a real man!
      I said!

      Fame whores.

I actually think that Slade if finally using his fame for good by promoting an event for his son while filming. Lets be honest they live in the land of fame seekers so what better way to boost attendance and donations than to tell the average Joe he might be seen on tv if he comes and makes a donation. People hold benefits like this everyday because of their financial situations and we are okay with that, I feel the only reason he is getting flack for it is because he is an almost celebrity so people assume he has or should have money. Basically do bash a dad for trying to help fund his childs care even if it is shown on tv!

      • Sissi

        Stephanie,
Don’t you think he will do better by getting a J.O.B and pay back the over $100K of back child support to his ex wife that IS caring for THEIR sick child.
How can any MAN sit on their couch, don’t work (meaning produce an INCOME) while his son’s medical bills are piling up.
He should work and do benefits work….

Slade is so lame. Gretchen too. I had no idea he had a son with such a dire diagnosis. Meanwhile he’s leisurely messing around with whatever OC housewife will have him so he can get his ugly mug on TV. What kind of FATHER behaves like Slade? Not doing whatever it takes to help your sick child. And then staging a fundraising event so he and Gretchen can be the focus of one of the episodes.

I’m not knocking Gray’s Mom but she moved in with her sister – who lives in a sprawling $1.8 million house. So it’s not like they’re exactly camped out at the trailer park.

I think it’s great Slade is using his pseudo-fame to bring in cash and awareness to the cancer foundation. Nice marketing move to film it as well which will bring in even more cash and awareness (and probably more ppl to the event for their 5 seconds of camera time).

So all you haters can hush. The dude is trying. So, go cut a check to a non-profit or go volunteer at a hospice or help an at-risk kid with his homework.

I don’t know Slade or Gretchen, but does she has some bitchin’ hair!
