VIDEO Woman born deaf hears her own voice for very first time

29-year-old deaf woman hears voice clearly for the first time

Swimming around in the muck and mire that is celebridom sometimes I need a serious recalibration of my humanity. The following video delivered that as we see a 29-year-old woman that CBS identifies as Sloan Churman, her YouTube handle is sloanchurman, hearing her voice clearly for the very first time.

She explained the clip this way:

“I had an implant put in 8 weeks ago called The Esteem Implant by Envoy Medical. I was born deaf and have worn hearing aids from the age of 2, but hearing aids only help so much. I have gotten by this long in life by reading lips. This was taken as they were activating the implant.”

Here is the very moving footage that was filmed by her husband:

As usual, many of the comments on the clip posted to YouTube are negative. They question how she can understand what the woman is saying etc… It’s my job to be speculative of what I see online but sometimes you just need to allow yourself to believe in beauty and humanity. Thank you Sloan for posting this and allowing me to do just that.
