Actress Anne Hathaway was in London, England today for the European Premiere of her new film, One Day. While the film has received an avalanche of bad reviews from critics, Anne earned her usual five stars on the red carpet by packing her lithe figure into a form-fitting nude illusion full-length sleeveless white lace dress that was nothing short of thintrulescent!
(Actually, in the photo at the top of this post, it almost appears as though she has her dress on backwards. Am I right? Even so, she still looks amazing!)
At the time of this post One Day has a Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score of just 28%, although movie goers seem to like it just fine as the film has a score of 72% from audiences. Reading through the reviews I get the impression that if you like emotional scenes and don’t mind a rather heavy-handed, high-concept plot structure and at least one pretty bad British accent, then give One Day a try! Otherwise, skip it.
Just for fun, here are some snippets from some of the more scathing reviews:
“One of the most painfully unromantic ‘romance dramas’ I’ve ever seen.”
Betty Jo Tucker
ReelTalk Movie Reviews
“The movie lumbers from one insufferable moment after another. But at least the title’s accurate: it seems like you’re sitting there for 24 hours.”
“Depressing, dreadfully disappointing dirge, culminating in maudlin melodrama.”
“A ghastly representation of longing and screen chemistry. It couldn’t make the nuances of attraction more unpleasant if it tried.”
“You could definitely call it awful, and I’m about to do so, repeatedly and effusively.”
“In one scene, we are told a boyfriend of Anne Hathaway’s character left. At that point, I’m envious. How come he gets to leave and I have to stay?”
“A miscast, underwritten, drably directed adaptation of a very popular novel, it’s the feel-bad film of the summer and an almost perfect example of how not to turn a book into a movie.”
On a positive note, One Day’s 28% ranking was enough to beat out three of the other top ten grossing films from last weekend, including Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D (21%), The Smurfs (22%), and Conan the Barbarian (24%)!
So have you seen One Day? (I still haven’t tbh) What did you think?
And did I mention Anne Hathaway looked lovely in London? Here’s a looooooong last look to remind you…
