Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Balterierra graduate high school

Happy news! The immensely lovable 16 & Pregnant, and Teen Mom stars Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra (pictured above with their adoption counselor) graduated from high school on June 5th. Catelynn’s grandmother even bought her a computer for graduation. They’ve had a rough go of finishing school after they gave up their daughter Carly for adoption. They struggled with complex emotions associated with that process, and still had to deal with unstable family conditions at home.

They have a complicated family: Tyler’s dad Butch is now married to Catelynn’s mom April, and has been in-and-out of jail and rehab all of Tyler’s life. During Teen Mom Season 2, we witnessed Butch go to a court-ordered rehab to treat what he said on camera was a cocaine addiction. Having Butch gone made Catelynn’s mom extremely irritable, and Catelynn’s grades seemed to suffer as a consequence of all the strife at home.

C & T, who got engaged at the end of Season 1 of Teen Mom also went through a bit of relationship drama on camera when Tyler found out Catelynn was lying about talking with an old flame. They also had communication issues over dealing with their grief, and almost broke up. They made it through, and they’re still together, still engaged, and going strong. Now that they’ve graduated high school they can set their goals on college.

Tyler’s Tweet about graduation:

Just graduated! Yeaaahhh buddy! Class song I gotta feeling by bep’s goodbye high school & hello 2 finals week in college, never stops huh?

Eventually Catelynn and Tyler plan to get married, settle down, and have more children. Right now Catelynn wants to be a grade school teacher, and Tyler wants to be a child psychologist. On the promo for the new season, which starts July 5, they consider moving in together, but we’re not sure if that actually happened. Catelynn lived with Tyler and his mom for a brief time after the birth of Carly

They’re also set to appear on an adoption special with Dr. Drew that also features 16 & Pregnant‘s Ashley Salazar, who gave up her baby to her aunt, and wrote a book about her roller-coaster adoption experience.

they were only in high school for 6 years lol. they dont even have a kid. its pretty sad it took them so long to graduate.

I absolutely love these two! They were the most mature kids, especially Tyler for a teen boy, even though their parents could take a lesson from them.

Shame on the adoption “counselor” though. She was COMPLETELY ridiculous during Catelynn’s time with her newborn daughter and when she said to Catelynn, “I guess I’ll just hold the adoptive parents off awhile longer…” I absolutely wanted to smack her through my TV screen. VERY UNprofessional adoption agent she is!

I think its funny that they gave their daughter up for adoption but still ended up taking 2 extra years just to graduate from high school. So what were they doing for all that time they caused them to fail classes and not show up for school all the while they are being filmed by MTV and making thousands of dollars?

Watch the show, dumbass, that should tell you.

          LOL!

This would have never happened if Catlyn and Tyler had decided to keep Carly. They made a good choice about who they wanted to be parents for both themselves and Carly. :)

Just because it took them a while to graduate, my hat is off to them for finally accomplishing it! It doesn’t matter HOW long it took them. Those 2 kids deserve a lot of credit for doing things they have done. For one, realizing that they could not take care of a baby and giving her a life with complete strangers is more than most teens do. For two, You never see/hear of these 2 partying or living a out of control life like a lot of the others. For 3, They seem to really love each other and want to help each other become better people. Living the life that they have had to live has made them the most mature teens I have ever seen :) Good Luck in all you do Catelynn and Tyler!

Ppl are so fn negative those kids been thru a lot I’m proud of them at least they finished school some ppl use their life issues as an excuse they got up & over it and did what they had to do I know I’m late but CONGRATS GUYS!!! GOD BLESS

The amount of time it took them to accomplish this is not at all important. They beat all statistics and graduated after being teen parents and living in unfair conditions at home. Very well put together young adults now and I think they should be proud.

These kids have been given horrible parents and they wanted the best for the baby they did an amazing job!! who gives a F*** if it took them extra long to graduate they didnt have an awesome home life like some did! and the adoption agent was pushing her because she did want her to change her mind and keep the baby she knew what was best for her and the baby and that was giving her up

Oh please, these two are good for giving Carly a better life, but at some point using her birth and subsequent adoption as an excuse for EVERYTHING else runs thin. I was a graduate at 16, and a wife & Mom by 18. I graduated from college, received my Master’s 3 years later, and am now a doctoral candidate at a top university (go Tribe!!!). Did I mention that I did most of this while being surrounded by crime, and general pandeonium in the bowels of Trenton, NJ. Please stop saying it’s such a feat to graduate from HS – it’s the expectation, and if we keep praising the normative behaviors, they do little else. Now if they graduate from college, with no additional children, I will be impressed.

Everyone’s life is different – just because you or someone else did something one way does not mean that is the course everyone should take. These 2 had rough lives and to give up a baby is emotional and there are a lot of problems in their own families. All that matters is they did finish school and they did what is best for the child they had and for themselves. It is not my place or anyone else’s to judge them and say that they had it easier than the mom’s that kept their children or not – you do not know and neither do I. But I do know that from what I see what they are doing now is commendable. Also it is very important that young women that get pregnant are aware that there are other options out there – that is why it is important to show this couple as well.

I think the fact that they did finish high is awesome. Some kids quit and don’t go back. So hats off for finishing even if they took the scenic route to do it. Let’s not forget that Tyler was even taking some college courses, not bad for a young’n. Good luck to both of them.

My hats off to them both. They could of just givin up like most kids who don’t have some one standing behind them pushing them to do their best. Plus I am pretty sure they were both way behind in school so to make up all those credits would take some time for the lady who brags about what she has accomplished way to go did you want a pat on the back. Were not talking about you were talking about these two teens who made a very hard but wise decision who have over come every obstacle they have been faced with. Plus the fact they are always in the spot light. Great job you two!!!!
